Prime Numbers Game
Can you crowdsource a business?
I have created a Prime Numbers game which can be played below or at www.zondle.com
See if you can squish the zondles and turn them into frisbees!
I wrote last week about how crowdsourcing was now a big part of mainstream culture from X-Factor to the Coalition government trying to cut laws. The response was great as it was when I tweeted about crowdsourcing an education business. It prompted me and the team at Zondle to consider whether we should crowdsource the business to a much greater extent and perhaps allow the crowd to benefit from their input.
Some background
Zondle is a website where teachers and students add homework, practice and revision questions in spreadsheet format and Zondle turns them into flash games that can be played at home or at school.
The very principle of the site is crowdsourcing. Users have been uploading questions (over 4000 since May 2010) and that relies on their time, effort and energy. Without the users and the questions, there are no topics, no games and no site. Simple.
We are keen to extend this crowdsourcing mechanism to develop Zondle over the coming term and will document the progress here. Its kind of an experiment but one that we think could really help us to develop a new kind of business in a new kind of way.
Taking it further – Step 1
As with Wikipedia, most of Zondle’s questions comes from a core of users who seem to like the site and have some time. We are really keen to take this a step further, so how about starting to ask some questions of the users that take seconds to answer (rather than the 10 minutes to write a series of questions).
Questions we came up with were; what should our strapline be? What, if anything, should we charge for? Should we pay ourselves? Should we pay our contributors? What subject areas and levels should we cover next?
So, as well as writing questions and creating topics and games, the crowd can help Zondle become a more integral part of a student’s learning experience.
The Plan
Over the next 6 weeks we will ask a different question to our user base (probably with multiple options) and then implement those decisions. The questions will be emailed to the users with responses posted in the upcoming email.
Get involved
If you want to get involved with Zondle and crowdsourcing a business then either email me (bartoneducation@googlemail.com) or sign up for Zondle (it’s free!) and await further instructions!!
